SHLD52 toolbox talk topics for Canadian crews
One topic a week for a year, organized by season and hazard. Plus the part most crews miss: how to run a talk that actually counts when the auditor asks.
How to run a toolbox talk that counts
- Keep it short. Five to ten minutes, one topic, at the start of the shift.
- Make it about this site. "Ladder safety" is fine. "The ladder situation on the north wall" is better.
- Let the crew talk. The best talks surface what workers already know is sketchy.
- Record it. Topic, date, who was there, signatures. An undocumented talk never happened as far as a COR auditor is concerned.
Toolbox talk records are among the most-sampled documents in a COR audit because they prove ongoing communication, not one-time paperwork.
